Featured Members!

Dionte is 17 years old and in 11th grade. His favorite book is Cthulhu Mythos. His favorite band is System Of A Down. He enjoys gaming and watching YouTube videos. His favorite app is Spotify. He heard about TLC from two other TLC members, Lacey and Joey. His favorite thing about TLC is “When we have quiet events when it’s calm and we can just chill and talk.” Dionte describes TLC as a “judgement free zone where we do a lot of crazy stuff and we’re voted mostly appropriate.”

Why we love him: Dionte is one of our most dedicated TLC members. He is so kind to everyone and the younger teens really look up to him. He is extremely helpful at programs – serving food and helping set up and tear down programs. He always offers a helping hand and doesn’t expect anything in return. He is truly one of the nicest, most genuine people we’ve ever met!

Kaya is 15 years old and a freshman in high school. Her favorite book series is The Selection series. She likes Pentatonix. Kaya enjoys reading, cooking, baking and coming to the library. Her favorite TV show is Stranger Things. She recommends After on Netflix. Her favorite app is Snapchat. Kaya heard about TLC because she was a part of the original Teen Advisory Board a few years ago but got busy. She just started coming to meetings again this past year. Her favorite part of TLC is that “We get a say in what programs/activities we want and being able to volunteer for them.” Kaya describes TLC as “a fun/crazy group of teens who come together in a safe environment to talk, hang out and come up with ideas for the library.”

Why we love her: Kaya is very attentive at TLC meetings and always has great ideas and opinions. She is creative and helpful at the library – she often takes the lead when we have special projects or tasks. Kaya is very sweet and we love her passion for reading! We also appreciate her kindness towards everyone around her – she is a true role model!

AJ is a sophomore in high school. His favorite author is Rick Riordan. His favorite bands are Alestorm and Disturbed. He enjoys playing video games. AJ’s favorite anime is The Devil is a Part Timer! He recommends The Order on Netflix. He found out about TLC because Dionte (another TLC member) “summoned him” into a haunted house meeting. His favorite part of TLC is hanging out with everyone. He describes TLC as occult and transmundane (mysterious and weird)!

Why we love him: AJ is kind and very witty and funny! Even though he is one of our newer members, it feels like we’ve known him forever. He’s very smart, and always has great insight on programming. He suggested we have a Game Day program, and it turned out to be one of our most fun programs!

TLC’s give young people a VOICE in creating and sustaining programs for teens at the library.  TLC members can give input on YA collections, contribute to blogs, help lead/create programming, volunteer at events, organize community service projects, and influence how we serve teens!

BONUS: being involved with a Teen Advisory Board looks GREAT on college applications!
